Son of Edward Clarkson Merrington and Johanna Margaretha Merrington, of 12, Clee Rd, Observatory, Cape Province. Born in Cape Province (Source : C.W.G.C.).

Killed in action on the 12th April 1917 in the improvised and disastrous attack of the 9th (Scottish) Division on the German positions in the East of Fampoux. The 4th SAI lost 6 officers and 200 men.
