ROBERT FRANCIS RYDER

Son of Frank RYDER, Robert Francis RYDER was manager of the firm of R.D. Kidd & Co at Newcastle, South Africa. He served in Egypt in the B Company of the 2nd S.A.I. commanded his brother-in-law, Captain John Douglas Walsh, who was killed in action during the baptism of fire of the South African Brigade at the battle of Halazin.

Promoted Company Sergeant Major of the B Company of the 2nd S.A.I., Robert Francis Ryder was killed in action in Delville Wood on the 15th July 1916. He was of the age of 24 and left a widow and two children.
