BERNAFAY WOOD BRITISH CEMETERY

Three South Africans rest in this cemetery ;  two are unknown. Probably killed in 1916, their names are commemorated on Thiepval Memorial (4C)

Killed in action.

On the 8th July 1916, two companies of the 2nd S.A.I. relieved elements of the 27th Infantry Brigade in Bernafay Wood (12th Royal Scots and 6th K.O.S.B.). On the 9th July, an additional company of the 2nd S.A.I. took over the S.E. corner of Bernafay Wood from a company of the 6th K.O.S.B.
